Nature and the 2026 political road map launched

At the beginning of August 2024, the country was informed by the electoral commission about the revised electoral road map 2024/2025. The revised roadmap period of action is from the 6th. August 2024-February 9th.2026.

The period tends to get heated up as a governance-critical period for the country. It is also a period of the potential increase in conflicts, disinformation, and the breakdown of law and order, with the environment and natural resources a victim. Voters and political aspirants tend to use environmental resources as awards or demands, baits for votes and generally, the policy makers’ attention to policies beyond their electoral term tends to reduce.

We are also reading from elections monitors, that this is likely one of the most expensive elections. This trajectory continues to be positive. Some of the reasons for the increased costs include weak resource governance, climate change, degradation resulting in low or unpredictable agricultural produce, and increased scarcity of basic factors of production such as land among others. The electorate is thus, relatively poor, hungry, unemployed, and demanding more physical provision from the political class.

Mind-Nature Institute through the eco-governance program area and the four core paths of research, skilling and capacity training, networking, and community service are following the roadmap and plan to engage accordingly to achieve better eco outcomes amidst electioneering. We are also driven by the fact that improved environmental/eco outcomes will limit the skyrocketing costs of choosing leaders.
